Remembrance Sunday 2026 falls on Sunday 8 November. Armistice Day itself is the following Wednesday 11 November.

North Tyneside Council held seven parades and services across the borough last year, on the Sunday, and a separate civic service at Killingworth on the Tuesday. Whitley Bay’s was the odd one out: 3pm at The Links, not eleven in the morning like almost everywhere else.

The 2026 arrangements have not been published yet. What follows is last year’s confirmed detail, taken from the council’s own release and its traffic order, which is the best available guide until the new one appears. This page will be rewritten the day it does.

Is it on this year, and when will we know

Yes, it runs every year, but no 2026 date, time or closure has been advertised.

As of 6 September 2026 there is no remembrance entry for this year on the council’s statutory notices page, and no 2026 news release.

That is normal for early September. Last year the traffic order, North Tyneside Remembrance Parades, was advertised on 9 October 2025, and the council’s news release, Remembrance events in North Tyneside, followed on 27 October 2025. Both landed inside the last four weeks before the parades. Expect the same window in October 2026.

Every one of these is from the council’s release for Sunday 9 November 2025. Treat the times as the shape of 2026, not as booked fact.

The council’s line on cost was flat: “All events are free and open to all.”

The Whitley Bay time is the one people get wrong

Almost every remembrance parade in the country steps off in time for the eleven o’clock silence. Whitley Bay’s does not. Last year it was 3pm at The Links, with the closures beginning at 2.15pm, and it has run in the afternoon for years.

If you want the silence at 11am you need Tynemouth, Wallsend, Shiremoor or Forest Hall. If you want your own town’s parade, it is the afternoon.

Armistice Day, Wednesday 11 November

Killingworth does not hold a Sunday procession. Last year its civic service was on Armistice Day itself, 11am at the White Swan Centre, at the post-1945 jigsaw memorial, followed by wreath laying and remembrance crosses.

Parking, and why the fireworks trick does not work here

There is a well known local shortcut: the charged council car parks on The Links are metered 9am to 6pm only, so the November fireworks display at 7pm is free to park for. A 3pm parade is not. Bournemouth Gardens and Dukes Walk are inside charging hours at three in the afternoon and cost £1.20 an hour.

Brierdene, NE26 4NF, and Waves, NE26 1TQ, are free at all times, but Brierdene keeps a four-hour maximum stay all day, so the free option is not unlimited. Full tariffs and the free car parks away from the seafront are on our Whitley Bay parking page.

The closures themselves are rolling, which means the road opens behind the parade rather than being shut all afternoon, but Watts Slope and Marine Avenue are the exact streets people park on for The Links.

What is not confirmed for 2026

  • The date of the parades. Remembrance Sunday is 8 November, but the council has not said the parades are on it.
  • Whether all seven run again, and at the same times.
  • The road closures, all of which need a fresh traffic order.
  • Anything about the Killingworth civic service on 11 November.
