Entries are open for the North Tyneside 10K Road Race 2027, which runs on Easter Sunday, 28 March 2027. The race starts in North Shields and finishes at St Mary’s Lighthouse in Whitley Bay (North Tyneside Council, 23 September).

The council, which organises the race, expects entries to be in high demand. No entries are taken on the day.

The route

From the Parks Sports Centre the course runs along the Fish Quay, past Tynemouth Priory and Castle, and up the coast to the lighthouse. The organisers describe it as one of the most scenic road races in the UK.

Last year’s winning times were 32 minutes 25 seconds for men and 38 minutes 5 seconds for women. The course record is 30 minutes 26 seconds.

What it means for you

  • Book early. The fee is not refundable. Places can be deferred at the organiser’s discretion, and deferrals and transfers close on 26 February.
  • Race packs are due to reach runners in the week of 8 March 2027.
  • Getting there: the nearest Metro stations to the start are North Shields and Percy Main, and the organisers ask runners to use public transport where they can. There is also on-site and off-street parking. Coaches take runners back to the start after the finish.
  • Bags can be left at the start between 8.30am and 9.15am.
  • Headphones, buggies and pushchairs are not allowed. The organisers say the course is not suitable for unassisted wheelchair users.

Every finisher gets a race T-shirt, and chip-timed results are sent by text message. The race is supported by Start Fitness and Clearly Drinks, which supplies the drinking water.
