Home Bargains' owner wants a store at Dudley, Morrisons Whitley Bay plans 218kW of rooftop solar, and five townhouses for North Shields: all 20 new bids.

North Tyneside Council validated 20 planning applications in the week beginning 21 September, as listed on Thursday 24 September (North Tyneside Council, weekly list, Public Access). Most are extensions and paperwork. Five are worth knowing about.

The ones to know about

  • A new store at Dudley for Home Bargains’ owner. TJ Morris Limited, the company behind Home Bargains, has applied to build one retail unit on land east of Weetslade Depot, Great Lime Road, Dudley, about six miles west of Whitley Bay. The plans include car and cycle parking, a shared footpath and cycleway, and an external display area. It is a major application and is expected to go to the planning committee. Neighbour comments are invited until 15 October (26/01302/FULM).
  • Solar on the Morrisons roof in Whitley Bay. Ashcroft Electrical Services proposes a 218kW solar panel system on the roof of Morrisons, Hillheads Road. It is a prior approval application, so the council checks set matters such as design and glare rather than the principle (26/01329/PRIOTH).
  • Five townhouses on Borough Road, North Shields. Low Town Developments wants to build five three-storey terraced townhouses on land next to Hatfield House. Neighbour comments are invited until 15 October (26/01242/FUL).
  • Shop and flats on Bewicke Road, Wallsend. The building at 24A, B and C would be redeveloped into a new shop with self-contained flats above (26/01296/FUL).
  • A dog day care on Chirton industrial estate. A building on Gloucester Road, West Chirton Industrial Estate, North Shields, would become a dog training and day boarding centre, open in the daytime only (26/01208/FUL).
