Whitley Bay New Year's Eve 2026: Spanish City from £33

New Year’s Eve in Whitley Bay centres on Spanish City, which has three ticketed events on Thursday 31 December 2026: an early family sitting in Trenchers, a five-course dinner in the 1910 restaurant, and an adults-only masquerade ball that runs to 1.30am. Two of the three have a balance deadline of 1 October 2026, next week, so the bookable window for dietary requests and payment is short.

We could find no council-run New Year’s Eve fireworks on the coast. North Tyneside Council’s free display is on The Links on Sunday 1 November (see our fireworks page).

Spanish City’s three New Year’s Eve events

Trenchers: the family option

Spanish City’s New Year’s Eve at Trenchers page splits the night in two. The 3.30pm to 5.30pm sitting is aimed at families, with a balloon modeller. The 7pm sitting is for adults and children aged 12 and over, with live music on the grand piano and a table magician. Both are a set menu, which Spanish City says is “coming soon”. Parties of 15 or more must pre-order. Unlike the other two events, the Trenchers page does not print the year; it is linked from Spanish City’s Christmas 2026 page, but treat the prices as a guide until you book.

1910 New Year’s Eve Dinner

The 1910 dinner is a five-course a la carte menu at £95 per person, with tables between 6pm and 9pm and live acoustic music in the Champagne Bar. Starters include roast king scallops and a twice-baked cheddar souffle; mains include a 28-day aged fillet and half lobster. There is a £1 per person booking fee.

The Masquerade Ball

The New Year’s Eve Masquerade Ball is a five-course dinner with a welcome cocktail, a table magician and the resident DJ, from 7pm arrival to carriages at 1.30am. The main course is roast fillet of beef. Parties of eight or fewer share a table of ten, and larger groups are split across tables.

All three events are booked through Spanish City’s site or on 0191 691 7090; the office is open 10am to 8pm daily. Payments are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Getting home

This is the practical catch on New Year’s Eve. In Nexus’s most recent published festive timetable, the Metro ran a revised service until about 9pm and then every 30 minutes, and most buses finished around 7.30pm. Anyone at the ball until 1.30am will need a taxi or a lift. Newcastle’s Quayside fireworks

The nearest recent public New Year’s Eve fireworks were on Newcastle Quayside. For New Year’s Eve 2024, NE1 and Newcastle City Council planned two free displays, a family one at 6pm and a midnight countdown, with no tickets needed. According to the Get into Newcastle event page, both were cancelled on the night because of strong winds and a Met Office yellow warning. Nothing has been announced for 2026 yet.
