Nicholsons on Park View won two golds and three silvers in the National Craft Butchers awards. Category champions are named on 12 and 13 October.
Nicholsons, the family butcher on Park View in Whitley Bay, has won two gold awards in a national competition for craft butchers. Its products also took three silvers.
The results are on the winners list published by National Craft Butchers, the trade body that runs the Product Awards. Judging took place at Harper Adams University on 3 and 4 September.
What Nicholsons won
| Award | Product name on the trade body’s list |
|---|---|
| Gold | Pork |
| Gold | Steak |
| Silver | Lincolnshire |
| Silver | Boerewors |
| Silver | Italian |
The business’s own announcement describes the golds as its traditional pork sausage and its steak pie, and the three silvers as sausages. It also claims a sixth award, a bronze for its black pudding. That bronze does not appear on the trade body’s published list, which names 80 bronze winners, so we cannot confirm it from the record today.
How big a field it was
National Craft Butchers says more than 40 butchery businesses entered over 300 products, and that entries rose by 36%. A 12-strong panel judged them, led by master butcher Keith Fisher.
The published list carries 88 golds, 90 silvers and 80 bronzes in total. Nicholsons is one of 36 businesses with at least one gold.
The next round
Gold winners are judged again to pick a champion in each of the competition’s 12 categories. The trade body says category champions will be presented with their awards in their shops on 12 and 13 October. So both Nicholsons golds are still in the running.
Owner Kathryn Meadows is also up for a separate prize. The business announced in September that she is a finalist for the Meat Businesswoman Award, Independent Retailing, in the Women in Meat Industry Awards. She won in the retailing category in 2021. The organiser, Meat Management, says the ceremony is on Friday 20 November at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London.
“To be recognised in the National Craft Butchers Product Awards is a huge honour,” Ms Meadows said in the business’s announcement of the results.
A shop with a long run on Park View
Nicholsons says it has traded on Park View since 1914, as a butcher and baker. Its shop at 140 Park View holds a food hygiene rating of 5, the top mark, from an inspection on 18 March 2026.
