52 of North Tyneside's 53 September food hygiene ratings were 5s, 13 in Whitley Bay. One Wallsend greengrocer got a 3. Every venue, listed by area.

Fifty-two of the 53 food hygiene ratings published for North Tyneside in September were a 5, the top mark. The odd one out was a Wallsend greengrocer, rated 3.

The figures come from the Food Standards Agency register, which lists 53 inspection results dated 1 to 30 September 2026. Thirteen of the 52 top ratings went to venues in Whitley Bay itself.

The register runs a few weeks behind the inspections. Late September visits may still be added, so this is the list North Tyneside Council’s inspectors have published so far.

The one rating below 5

Farnsworth Fruit And Veg, 19 Segedunum Way, Wallsend, was rated 3 on 16 September. A 3 means “generally satisfactory”.

The register breaks every rating into three parts: how food is handled, the condition of the premises, and how food safety is managed. Farnsworth’s inspection scored “generally satisfactory” on all three.

A business can appeal its rating within 21 days. It can also publish a right of reply on the register, or ask for a re-inspection once it has made improvements. If it does either, we will report it.

One more 5 went to McKenzie Ices, a mobile caterer registered in NE28, on 9 September. The register gives no street address for it.

What it means for you

  • You can look up any cafe, takeaway or pub in the borough on the Food Standards Agency register before you go.
  • A rating reflects the day of inspection, and it stays up until the next visit. Check the date as well as the number.
  • A new business with no rating yet is normal. The register adds venues a few weeks after their first inspection.
  • Last month’s full list is in our August food hygiene roundup. Park View’s Nicholsons butchers, rated 5 in March, has just won two national golds.
